How God Is Transforming Kapiri Mposhi Through Local Leaders

Across Kapiri Mposhi, God is using local pastors and ordinary community members to foster spiritual growth, economic strength, and restored hope. The following stories you’ll read began as a result of the Possibilities Africa training for pastors.

1. Spiritual Revival through Discipleship

Before joining PA, many pastors only preached on Sundays. Today, discipleship is taking off.

  • Pastor Tambatamba launched a weekly Bible study that grew from 7 people to 30 committed learners, deepening biblical understanding in his church.
  • Pastor Gideon saw that a lack of biblical understanding contributed to rising gender-based violence. He mobilized his church for door-to-door evangelism, in which they preach the Word and pray with families. They have grown from visiting 5 homes to 15 homes per week. Local police have reported a decrease in GBV cases since this initiative started.
  • Pastor Frank and his leaders regularly visit clinics to encourage and pray with the sick. Our team in Zambia reported that this has helped the patients not to lose hope and to always look to God, the ultimate Healer.

2. Economic Strength through Business Development

Instead of relying solely on church offerings, pastors and church groups are launching sustainable income-generating projects.

  • Pastor Artson’s church had a shared challenge among men. Most of them lacked a stable income to provide for their families. The men invested in goats and donkeys for breeding and plowing cornfields, and the women purchased 200 chicks to grow their income beyond basic vegetable sales.
  • Pastor Simfukwe expanded his small grocery shop into two stores using money from the pastor’s Shalom group savings, and can now fully provide for his family and pay for his children’s school fees. He also donated land for youths to grow corn together, giving them dignity, teamwork, and income.

3. Transformational Leadership in Action

Eight pastors in this area have formed a total of 287 Shalom group members, working together across denominations like never before. These Shalom groups, made up of men, women, and children, are making a difference beyond the church walls to serve the community.

  • Pastor Maseka’s church now visits elderly residents weekly—cleaning, cooking, praying, reading God’s Word, and reminding them they are loved.
  • Pastor Richard’s church cleans the local clinic every week, saving the facility vital resources and lightening the load on health workers.

4. Investing in the Next Generation

Churches have launched Sunday Schools and youth seminars to disciple young people and teach entrepreneurship skills. These programs are raising a generation that is responsible, God-fearing, and equipped for the future.

5. The Community Responds with Open Arms

The excitement in Kapiri Mposhi is spreading. More youth want to join the maize project. More women are eager to join the poultry initiative. Community members are volunteering in clinic cleanups and caring for the elderly. People are seeing spiritual and economic transformation, and they not only welcome Possibilities Africa initiatives with open arms, but they also want to be part of it.

This is the story of what’s possible when pastors are trained in Biblical, Gospel-centered principles. It’s not charity. It’s transformation–led by the people of Kapiri Mposhi themselves.
