Names: Peg & Roger Nyffeler (pictured above with staff and John & Carla Watson,  2015)

Giving Birthday: November 28, 2010

Partner Profile: Peg Nyffeler’s passion for missions began in the fourth grade when she met a visiting missionary from Africa. That spark, combined with a lifelong love of travel and the guidance of mission-minded mentors, became a thread woven through her life. Today, she and her husband, Roger, are not only longtime supporters of Possibilities Africa but also pillars of its vision. Peg joined the board in 2021 after more than 15 years of partnership.

Their connection began in Nebraska with their pastor, Doug Shada, whose enthusiasm for Possibilities Africa was contagious. A trip to Kenya in 2010 confirmed what they’d heard from Doug–this was a ministry that equips people, not simply gives handouts. “The bottom line for me,” Peg reflects, “is that in all the other mission projects we had been involved in, you have to give people hope. We need to help them move forward in self-confidence. Just because someone lives in poverty doesn’t mean they aren’t intelligent or capable. We invest, we learn from their culture, and we watch God grow it.”

On their visits, Peg and Roger have witnessed firsthand the dignity and excitement that Possibilities Africa fosters. Roger still recalls trekking through the mud to see a farmer proudly show the team his cow—a testament to the dignity and hope people can have in providing for themselves with God-given skills and abilities. “They don’t need the money,” he explains. “What we need is to educate and equip. Raising cattle, chickens, or selling eggs builds confidence, excitement, and a sense of worth.”

For the Nyffelers, this approach—Africans training Africans, leaders equipping leaders—is the key to lasting transformation. “When people ask what we do when we go there,” Peg says, “I tell them it’s not about me. It’s about building people up.”

That commitment to accountability and empowerment is why Peg and Roger continue to invest their time, prayers, and resources. “It doesn’t matter what your resources are—you can’t outgive God. It’s all His anyway,” Peg says. “And with Possibilities Africa, we know where the funds go. The organization is transparent. There’s nothing hidden.”

From their first steps onto African soil to Peg’s service on the board today, the Nyffelers’ story is one of hope passed forward—mentors inspiring givers, givers empowering leaders, and leaders transforming communities.
