Staff Profile: Meet Christopher 

Name: Christopher Chama

Title: Country Ministry Director in Zambia  

About Christopher: Christopher Chama was once so determined to pursue his career aspirations in electrical engineering that when people asked him to be involved in the church, he said no. He desired to work in a lab in Japan to fix electronics because he grew up seeing many of the gadgets in African countries come from there.

However, God made it abundantly clear that He had other plans for Christopher’s life, and Christopher responded with complete surrender to His will. Christopher left his career aspirations to follow God’s call as a pastor and teacher.

Christopher earned two bachelor’s degrees from Global University to pursue this new path–one in Bible and Theology and one in Christian Education. He also earned a Master’s in Christian Education from the University of Christian Studies & Seminary in Alaska.

He spent nearly 15 years as a lecturer in universities and as a teacher in a private school where he held the position of school manager, all while pastoring a church. He left his familiar teaching world to join the Possibilities Africa team in May 2023 as the Country Programs Officer before stepping into his current role of Country Ministry Director in May 2024.

He looked at his passion for rural ministry, experience of lecturing, and firsthand knowledge of pastoring a church on the outskirts of the city, and said, “This is where I want to serve because God has prepared me.”

By transferring his skillset to Possibilities Africa, God has positioned him to benefit the masses and be an agent of change in many communities. Today, he is pursuing two additional degrees to benefit his contribution to Possibilities Africa–a Bachelor of Information, Communication, and Technology from Information Communication University and a Master’s in Transformational Development from Eastern College of Australia.

Having served as a pastor in rural ministry, he can easily relate to the hardships of the pastors. What he loves most about his role with Possibilities Africa is being part of the Possibilities Africa training with rural pastors.

If you ask him what he enjoys about the training, you will see him light up as he shares his passion for contributing to the transformation of pastors, who will change how they do ministry and impact their communities. Christopher is also passionate about shaping the people he supervises on the Possibilities Africa team in Zambia. It brings him joy to be on a team and score together.

Christopher also spends much of his time focusing on local resource mobilization, which includes talking to potential local donors about how they can support Possibilities Africa and managing the resources in the Zambia office. He ensures that everything is managed well so targets are achieved.

Most people call Christopher “Reverend Chris” or “Pastor Chris” because of his background as a pastor. He has been married to his wife for 20 years, and they have four children together–all four are boys. The people in his life know him as a church person, a teacher, gentle and patient with everyone.

Prayer Requests:

• Pray for Christopher’s firstborn son who has cerebral palsy to be treated in a godly way by society and that his family would raise him a godly way. Pray for joy, God’s grace, favor, and strength in his life.
• Pray for God to expand the work of Possibilities Africa in Zambia. Pray for publicity so more may know and broaden local support.
• Pray for the parts of Zambia that experienced a severe drought this year to have provision for power outages shortages of water, and people who rely on agricultural activities to live.
