Staff Profile: Meet Richard

If you ask Richard about his childhood, he will pleasantly smile and tell you about playing barefoot. He thoroughly enjoyed his childhood and credits his upbringing to his godly view of work. No matter how small or low a task, he enjoys doing work unto the glory of God.

Richard went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Masinde Muliro University in western Kenya. After graduating in 2019, he had the opportunity to work in county government in Bungoma, Kenya. He worked in the procurement department collecting data, economic zoning, and identifying areas where potential businesses could be financed.

After university, Richard worked for a community-based organization that focused on equipping youth, the unemployed, and school dropouts with skills like masonry and carpentry. His interest in Possibilities Africa sparked when he learned the model entangled ministry with work and community-driven change. He is passionate about a sustainable approach to alleviating poverty in rural Africa.

Richard began working for Possibilities Africa in March 2024. Since then, his faith in the Possibilities Africa programs has only grown. He testifies with confidence that God is working wonders in the Possibilities Africa communities.

Today, Richard serves as the Country Administrative Ministry Associate for Possibilities Africa in Kenya. He focuses on community analysis of programs by developing mathematical models and analyzing data for decision-making in remote villages.

Richard seeks to create reliable interpretations to improve how programs run in communities. For example, as pastors exit their two-year training program, Richard documents pastors’ economic status before and after the Possibilities Africa intervention to measure impact.

Along with the intrinsic value of analyzing data, Richard executes administrative responsibilities for the effectiveness of the ministry. He serves as the administrative assistant to the Country and Administration Communication Officer in Kenya. In this role, he ensures the office runs efficiently, maintains cleanliness in spaces, updates files, and scans documents. The other aspect of his administrative role is working closely with the Regional Ministry Champion in Kenya on community analysis. Richard has a true servant’s heart in ensuring staff have the necessary resources and running errands as needed.

What he enjoys most about working for Possibilities Africa is the spirit of togetherness. Richard feels everyone on the team is willing to guide him and walk alongside him. He enjoys weekly devotions and fellowship with fellow staff members, which he testifies have brought him closer to God.

In his free time, Richard enjoys running, playing football, doing aerobics, and listening to music. People who know him well describe him as an ambivert who knows how to read his environment and adapt to it accordingly.

He is a playful person, especially when he’s mentoring children. He is passionate about children and desires to help them learn what he expressed as feeling inadequate in learning at that age–reading, building vocabulary, and creativity. He serves as a mentor for youth football, encouraging children to read, be playful, and be active in their day-to-day activities.

Prayer requests:

Pray for Richard’s development, growth, and pursuit of excellence with Possibilities Africa. “I’m not oblivious to the fact that we are humans and there is always development– there is room for development, for career growth, for skills. And I plead with you to pray for me as I carry on with this career,” says Richard.
